Another Road to the Regionals, Game 4, Vs. ...

Sorry, I've forgotten his name!

Opps!

Good afternoon,

Here be my last game of the day. I was back down at the bottom of the tables - again! - this time up against a newbie. He was flying an X, a Y and a B. His first time at a comp, hadn't been playing the game long...

Learning from my last game that splitting the boys and girl didn't really work well for me, I kept them all together on the left. Refusing the right flank, to use some wargaming parlance. So head to head I went against a mighty Y!

In spite of some assistance from port...

...the Y went bye!

After a quick reversal in direction...

...and with the newbie landing the X on a rock...

...the B, well...blew!

And then...

...the X marked the wrong spot at the wrong time!

Boom!

Still, he seemed to enjoy the game, which is what it's all about after all.

Cheers,

Nick

Another Road to the Regionals, Game 3, Vs. Luke

I'm pretty sure it was Luke.

Anyway, Good afternoon,

Here is the third of my four battles in The Wizard's Retreat's Road to the Regionals bash from back in July.

By this third round I had 1 win and 1 loss. I was in the middle somewhere. So it was time to meet Luke, in his Fat Han with three Zeds. Tala's, I think they were.

I set up so as to take Han from the side while going head to head with the Zeds. I mean, how hard could three Zeds be?

First attacks from Soontir were brushed off. I thought nothing of it. At the time.

Luke even obliged me by 3K'ng his Zeds right in front of Turr and right behind Kath respectively. Easy meat, thought I.

Easy meat nothing! Han one shots me!

Just like that!

Stink!

At least Kath was able to retaliate, but, what 14 points in exchange for 25? That ain't good!

And here's where I lost the game.

I thought "Nah, Kath can take care of those Zeds, they're just Zeds. Let's send Soontir after Han..."

So I split my boys apart. Or boy and girl.

It was about here where I realised my mistake. So long as I could take actions (focus, PTL for another focus and an evade), Han couldn't touch Soontir. But neither, what with The Falcon's evade, R2's shield and 3PO's [possible/probable] evade, could Soontir touch Han.

Arghh!

In the meantime those dratted Zeds were taking chunks out of Kath.

Bother.

And Kath just couldn't bring the goods!

So I try to regroup the troops.

In spite of Soontir's crit. (Sharp turns are now red, if I remember rightly.) Given to her by...me! I flew him onto a 'roid.

Bother.

Still, at least Kath's piloting skill hadn't completely deserted her! Her luck, on the other hand...

...had!

Drats!

And you know how Soontir was sitting on a 'roid? Well, he had to fly through it to get off, and, well...

...what, with taking damage from the rock, and not being able to take any actions, Han made short work of his exposed arse!

Arse!

Well played Luke, well played. And a jolly entertaining game too.

Another Road to the Regionals, Game 2, Vs. Andrew

Good afternoon,

Now that Term 3's ended, I've now got a little bit of time. So...here is the second game that I played at The Wizard's Retreat in July just prior to the Regionals.

I was flying...if memory serves...

...apparently The Baron, 'is Mate and a Bounty Hunter. Soontir, Turr and Kath.

Andrew was rocking two Outer Rim Smugglers (one of which was mine!), and Jek Porkins.

So we set up, Andy obviously opting to run up and down the back of the board, with Porkins in the middle. Much like a pig in a blanket, if you will.

I thought to keep Porkins busy with Turr, while concentrating Kath and Soontir on my left.

To mix universes.

Pew pew pew!

Porkins slips in behind Turr, while the two Smugglers cross paths.

With all of this negative attention...

...Boom! That's minus one Tie Interceptor, thank you very much!

Drats!

Then Andy looks to do something quite similar with my Kath, whilst and at the same time attempting to deny her a shot on his most wounded Smuggler.

Hurrah for her rear fire arc!

And her forward arc too, for that matter!

And so we were both down to two.

Make that 2:1! Again, that rear arc does the biz. And how!

A bit of flying thither and yon later...

...Boom!

Drats! The Firespray ain't the only one who can fire out it's arse end!

However, with Soontirs' double focus and evade each turn...

...the end really was in no doubt!

Another fun game Andrew, thanks muchly.

And it was great to see my YT on the board!

Raider Reductions

Good evening,

Last night I popped along to the club for bi-monthly bash of X Wing. This time I had been invited by Jared to try out some Epic action. 250 points worth. So I figured to take the Dodana's Pride...

...and The Boys. And some of their mates.

I was also "using", integrating if you will, the new integrated astromech card that's just come out with the the new core box. Not that I've got one, mind you. Or four. For my existing T-65s. Shades of Evil Empire-making-one-by-ships-primarily-for-the-useful-cards-therein-or-a-new-starter-box-for-the-soon-to-be-mandatory-updated-damage-deck anyone?

But I digress.

Alas, Jared had misunderstood my communications, and had left the CR-90 at home. However, Nick McB was also at the club, so he and I joined forces to face down the Empire.

At which point Andrew rocked up, so he took a flight of Ties...and set the up as far away from the action as possible!

Something about being a decoy. Yeah, right!

Anyhow, Nick lent me Biggs, so I swapped over Jemma to him, set up my classics in the corner, and away we went.

First move, first shots. From the Raider. Range 4, managing to strip a shield off Biggs. I was still way out of range.

Just look at the size of that thing!

Second move, and Jared revealed an ambiguously dialled maneuver for the Raider, so Nick and I thought we'd try to run it into Vader.

Alas, he didn't. Something about the Raider giving Vader a free action through performing a Co-ordinated action. So Skywalker just barrel rolled out of the way. (He'd still take a damage from the asteroid, but...it would have been much funnier had Darth crashed into the Big Bird!)

We keep closing, and I take first shots at my prey.

Vader now switches to Chewie so as not to get run over by Grand Moff Tarken. I tell ya, 'twas an all star cast!

Though the E Wing didn't stick around for the credits, being vapourised early by the Raider 'n all.

Meanwhile, Andrew still potters along!

Not wanting to run Dutch in his Y into Tarken in his...R..., I send him out in front of the nasty nasty beastie.

"Don't tell me, he's right behind me, isn't he?"

While the bent wing birds pick on the Wookie.

While Andrew continues to potter along.

I fly Luke too close, Jared swings out the Raider's arse in a bank to the left, and...

...a Skywalker finally does get run over by the Raider!

Drats!

Still, at least I had discovered the Raider's weak spot - it has no firing arcs to it's immediate rear. I was able to pour fire into the aft section, bringing to within one hull point of destruction.

Jared tries to pick on the mighty Y...

...whilst, and at the same time dials a red manoeuvre for the Punisher, allowing Nick and I to fly it into the path of Vader, who in turn can't complete his K turn, ends up pointing in the wrong direction, and still gets a stress for his efforts.

:-)

And then, just as Andrew's Ties turn up...

...we had to call it.

Just as I had him exactly where I wanted him!

Thanks for the game Jared, it was cool. And it taught me some valuable lessons. Not the least of which is that Wedge's ability means little against something that doesn't have any evade dice!
