X Wing Escalation Game 4

Good evening,

And so it came down to it. Three games, two wins...according to the established pattern, it was time for another comprehensive win!!

So, for this final 150 point list, I brought out the big gun...

Soontir Fell, with Push the Limit.

Again my opponent - Jonathan this time - obliged by setting up his [Fattish] Han head to head, with the intention of pinning me to the front and buzzing around the fringes with his A Wing Aces, so I was able to concentrate my fire...

...whilst, and at the same time, avoiding at least a few of his fire arcs.

Boom! Han's coup de grace given by a lowly Academy Tie.

With the Tie Interceptor...

...zapping a Zed.

I think that that was the Alpha Squadron Pilot's first significant contribution up until that point!

In the meantime Tycho and Gemmer Sojan chased The Dauntless.

Or tried to. I was able to get some Ties to run interference...

...whilst Johnathan flew his remaining Headhunters out of the fray.

Alas and alak...

...the peck peck pecking finally burst the Rear Admiral's bubble.

Bother.

Still...

...what goes around, comes around.

Again, the Tie I steps up.

From there...

...it was a bit of a mop up operation...and a chase down of the last A Wing...

...which was when Jonathan became a little tired of my 'place an explosion marker to indicate the demise of your ship' foibles.

So, in the end, overall, when all things were considered and counted up...I ended up in the middle of the field. Which I was quite happy with, considering that I was pinning my lists on a big ol' egg timer!

Thanks for the games boys, and thanks for the $20 random-draw-voucher and $10-off-when-spending-$50, Mighty Ape.

(I got me a couple of brushes and some Orc Gore Riders!)

X Wing Escalation Game 3

Good afternoon,

Right, two down, two to go. Mind you, at this point I was a little concerned with the trend. One outright win, one modified win (by one point!), what would this one bring...?

So, for game three I added Night Beast and Dark Curse.

Night Beast gains a free focus with a green manoeuvre,  and Dark Curse negates all focus' and re-rolls that an attacker might point his way.

I set up in the corner again, this time keeping my Ties beside my VT, not in front of it, and Todd, thankfully, obliged by setting up a nice big juicy target ahead of me.

I took the bait.

It was about now...

...that I realised that I should have been targeting Howlrunner instead. No wonder she's the first to go if you're flying her as part of your list.

Those re-rolls she allows can be really annoying!

So...

...target her I did.

Right...

...now to deal with the shuttle...

...Boom! Just to get it out of the way, you understand.

And, while we're at it...

...that enemy Tie was starting to bug me as well.

But not before...

...my Academy likewise gets dispatched. By the very Academy that it had just dealt to.

(Same pilot skill, so they shot at each other at the same time...)

Unfortunately, Whisper was was keen to make her presence felt.

Bother. There goes the DC.

However, next up, in the same bound...

...Boom! You don't really want to be that close to a Decimator sporting Expose.

Huzzah! I felt like I was crawling my way back into the game.

A little zipping around then ensued.

Where upon...

...Whisper got just a little too close.

Boomshanka!!

And so it was down to two. The Dauntless with one hull remaining, and a Tie with two.

Ka Blammo!

And the Imperials won the day!

It was a great game, full of action, high drama...and exploding ships! In the end, I lost by the points cost of an Academy Tie Fighter!

Thanks for the game Todd,

Nick

X Wing Escalation Game 2

Good evening,

Right, one quite resounding victory from the first game, time to try my luck with my first re-enforcements - an Academy Tie and a Alpha Squadron Tie Interceptor.

Seeing as I had the lower pilot skills, I set up in the corner, ideally to go head to head with the Falcon.

Unfortunately, Darryl set up in the centre, so I tried to turn the Ties in front of the Dauntless.

What a mess!

And it didn't get much better...

And in the confusion...

...drats! Nasty nasty Zeds. And my poor wee interceptor didn't even get to fire a shot!

So I fly the Tie out of the way while the Falcon takes on the Dauntless.

Right, time to get that Tie pointing in the right way.

But not before it takes a crit.

Oh come on!!

Ok, so...my re-enforcements did absolutely diddly squat!

Bother.

And I've yet to significantly scratch the Rebels.

Rats.

Ok. At this point I realised that I'd never take down Darryl's fat Han, so...roll out a Target Lock, Experimental Interface and Expose onto that Zed lurking in the back.

Next turn, after taking chunks of that Headhunter...

Boom! Courtesy of Expose. Great card on a Devastator, I tell ya.

Next turn...

...next Zed. Boom!

And then, time was called. On final count back...I won by one point!

Still, a win's a win!

Cheers Darryl,

Nick
