One HOTT Spring Night - Game One

Good afternoon,

Last night, having put aside my toys, I headed out to Robin's for some HOTT fun.

First game saw my Sarmatians up against his Army of Chaos.

I took 10 Knights (including a general) and one of Robin's dragons.

He took 1 Hero General, 4 Knights, 4 Blades and 2 Hordes.

Nice simple table, I was the aggressor, and away we began.






Robin cleverly refused the flank where I had an overlapping advantage and pushed forward the other flank where I did not.


So I piled in anyway.



Here we see my General rushing in where angels would have fear'd to tread.


After a bit of pushing and shoving...




The inevitable happened...




...and, seeing as that was my general that just got mobbed by those nasty blue headed freaks...that was the game!

Hmmm...silly Dragon not turning up...hmmm...

PAK 40s Done...

...sorta.

Back to work tomorrow, for a little while anyway, which is good, 'cause...






...I need to grab some more PVA to finish these bases!

I like the way the greys have come out. Dark grey, black wash, light grey, and I think I'm getting better with my splinter camo. Must compare them first hand with my earlier efforts.

HOTT tonight at Robin's. Cool!

Dora Doings Done...

...and the Thunderbolt's...fthingished?

Well, that was quick! Inspired on Tuesday, started on Thursday, finished on Sunday.

The Dora's done!






The decals are really, really thin...I kinda munted four of the crosses, and had to plonk these 'solid' ones on the sides instead.

Quite like the way the canopy came out - undercoat black, first coat black black grey, leaving black around the outside, then a top coat of black grey, with a smidge of grey grey black on top.

I also got the Thunderbolt finished.






Not quite so happy with this one - poor kit design has meant the nose has been glued on slightly askew, and some of the masking didn't work out quite as well as I'd like...and again, the decals were a bit fiddly, but I do like the way I glued the magnet to the plane so's it's banking on it's stand! And the silver does look grand...

So, there you go!

I've also done a little on the other two.




Just waiting to pick up some modeling masking tape for the anti glare panel on the Thunderbolt.

Painting the Dora by hand is taking ages!

Radial Fighters of WW2 Group Build

Good evening,

Paul, over at Plastic Warriors has proposed a group build based around his Airfix Zero.

Seeing as my main WW2 Wargaming interest lie in NZ 2 Div's efforts in Italy, I suggested that he broaden the criteria to include any radial engine powered fighter of WW2, mostly 'cause I had this stashed away...


...as a generous gift from Andy. FW-190s are radials, right? Wrong. Well, right and wrong - the A's were...





...but the D model was actually powered by an inverted V-12. From the JU-88, if memory serves.

Still, Paul's keen to see it (seeing as he's just finished one himself) and, as I'm on holiday for the next week...







All on the same day!!

A nice simple kit (main planes and fuselage are both one piece pieces), the only drawback is that they're designed to be modeled wheels down. A simple fix, but still not the tidiest result on the planet.

Oh, and there's no pilot, so I've decided to paint the canopy blue as so many clever chaps (most especially Tim Gow) have done before. I'm hoping I can get it right.

While I was at it, I decided to drag out the unfinished Hurricane...


...that's been waiting all this time just for the canopy frames to be painted (!), and my Thunderbolt...



...that is at least radial engine powered!

So, as Paul would say...model on!
