vs. Alex
Good evening,
Well, against all expectations, I was two:one up. Cool!
Now I was up against Alex who was flying a Palp mobile and two Sigma Squadron Phantoms. Hmmm...last time I saw these, ahh, they didn't go well. Seeing as everyone can shoot at them before they re-cloak 'n all...hmmm...
Anyhow, I set up to roll forward and see what opportunities presented themselves.
I didn't have too wait long.
Umm, yeah, four fighters shooting at you, two at Range 1, when one of the pirates steals your tokens, you've only got two shields and two hull, with only two green dice...umm...yeah...
And next turn...
...yeah, umm...yeah.
Still...
...it wasn't all one way.
What's everyone got against my Hawk?
Next bound and the Palp mobile...
...almost makes a wrong turn.
But let's face it...
...the writing was on the wall!
And that was the end of that.
Still, it gave Alex and I some time to catch some of the other action around the place...
Cheers Alex,
Nick

2015 Conquest X Wing Game 3
vs. Dorian
Good evening,
And so it was that my 5s sped on to game 3 against Dorian who was running Ten Numb, a Red Squadron X Wing, and a Wild Space Finger sporting Heavy Laser Cannon and a dratted Auto-blaster.
Not fully understanding his list, I set up to go head to head with what I thought to be Luke Skywalker...!
Suffice it to say, I was rather surprised when the Fringer screamed up my left flank, just as I realized that actually, that wasn't Luke, and had turned to face this incoming freighter.
Dorian cleverly flew into three of my four flyers, thus denying my own incoming fire destined it's way. I soon found out why. Dorian's Spacer unleashed the Auto-blaster into my Hawk, bringing it down to one hull, if memory serves.
Stink!
So, that YT-2400's destruction became an even higher priority!
Still...
...the X-Wing had paid the price for last turn's denial-of-service-attack against the YT, with the M3 serving the coup de grâce. That, and my HWK had stolen the X's focus token!
Huzzah!
The YT took the full brunt of the combined fire of the Zed, the Viper and the Hawk...
...so it flew off to set up for another run.
Thankfully missing the HWK.
Not wanting to get too close to the Spacer again, I headed for the B-Wing.
To the Hawk's demise!
Drats!
Still...
...the Zed finished Ten Numb off.
Huzzah!
Now, to deal with that Fringer.
And once again, the Zed delivered the final blow. This truly was the victory of the light-weights.
Cheers for the game Dorian, it was great fun!

2015 Conquest X Wing Game 2
Good evening,
And so onto Game 2 vs. Scott who was running, if memory serves, Rexler Brath in a souped up Defender, Backstabber, and Darth Vader in an Omicron Group Shuttle and an Academy Pilot. Hmmm...well, at least I wasn't out numbered...
So I set up in the corner hoping to isolate his Academy...
...who promptly turned tail and flew in to seek the company of his mates.
I was duped, I tells ya!
So...on to Plan B. Lets get Vader. So away we go.
Once we've got round that debris, that is.
Or not, in the case of the M3.
Who blows up. Again.
Still, at least he managed to get some shots into the shuttle.
Alas, not enough shots, however. There goes the Zed!
Actually, I think that the shuttle had got it down to one hull, and Vader did the rest.
My boys fly past...
...and the Hawk deals to the Shuttle.
Huzzah! I've killed the Emperor and his Apprentice!
Next turn, and...
...Backstabber kinda takes a wrong turn, right in front of the 'Viper!
Not to be outdone...
...the mighty Hawk's Blaster Turret speaks again. Rather harshly as it turned out.
And, as Rexler Brath gets taken down to one hull...
...he quickly and quietly leaves the room...
'Twas a cool game there Scott, I was sure you had me when my two light-weights got turned into space dust!

2015 Conquest X Wing Game 1
vs. Damon
Good afternoon,
Yesterday was the Conquest X Wing competition. As I said yesterday, I took a wee scum list of all skill 5 pilots.
Mostly because I hadn't played with those toys for a while, and I thought that the focus stealing of these boys created a nice synergy. And I like the comedy that is the HWK-290 as a fighter!
First up was Damon (the eventual winner of the day), sporting a souped up Soontir, Vader in his Tie A X1 with an engine upgrade and targeting computer, and the big cheese himself, Emperor Palpatine, puttering around in a shuttle. The Palp-mobile, if you will.
I set up to gun down the shuttle first up...
...but Damon stalled it first turn, so I tried to turn in with Guri to take on the Ties.
To pretty much no result.
So back to plan A...with full realisation that I could't really do anything about the Imperial Aces that are swinging in behind me. Though Vader wasn't in much of a hurry.
Soontir unleashes onto the M3 at range 1...and squiffs the roll. So, since Damon gave Soontir a targeting computer, he re-rolls all of his dice, and...
...FOUR CRITS! On one reroll!
Boom! Even before the M3 could fire!
And to add insult to injury...
...Palpatine one shots a Zed thanks to an unfortunate crit-and-roll.
Bother!
Still, at least Soontir runs into the Shuttle next turn, denying him actions...
...allowing the HWK to survive...
...thus allowing the Emperor to be blowed all up in his grill!
Whoo hoo, the Emperor is dead!
Oh, that's right, Vader is still around.
Poo doo.
Oh yeah, and so is Soontir.
Drats!
With the Dark Lord hisself (now Emperor Vader?) dealing the final blow.
Well played Damon, well played.

WW1 AH vs Ruskies
Good morning,
Last Wednesday, I hopped over to Robin's rebuilt games room
I was rather shocked by the desolation created by the red zoning as I was driving into Robin's neighbourhood - it looks a bit like a wasteland around the Avon River...
...all those houses under those red lines - they aren't there anymore. They've all been pulled down. It kinda blew my mind really, to see the full extent of it...
Like, I'd been over there a number of times since the earthquakes, but most often in the dark, or, when going over during the day, either I couldn't get down through the middle due to road closures, or the houses were at least mostly still there. Abandoned, but still there. Now...
But I digress.
Robin had heard my plea for a 20mm game - X Wing's great, but I do like me some 20mm action too! He had adapted a small Great War Spearhead WW1 Western Front action over to the Eastern Front.
The Russians (Robin) had a regiment defending an important town sector.
My two (smaller) regiments of Austro Hungarians had to take it off them.
I had one on board battery of...75s?...that were attached to my right regiment, plus another battery of the same off board in general support.
Three companies of sneaky, sneaky Russians covering the wood to my left.
And we're off!
First enemy artillery strike...
...takes out my regimental commander! So another fighting unit was substituted in his stead.
Second strike...
...and this time another company was destroyed, and a couple more were suppressed.
Meanwhile, on my left...
My 1st Regiment was approaching the southern woods.
(I think it was about this turn when I wasted my time to shoot over open sights with my guns into Robin's on board guns...only to find they were just out of range!)
We close the gaps...
...all while the MMG company awaits the onslaught in the outskirts of the town.
Another artillery strike (less effective this time), and my rightmost regiment wheels, whilst also trying to cover to it's front.
The waiting Russians also advance on this flank.
On the other, I try to organise my troops to advance without getting in each other's way.
You know that waiting MMG?
Huzzah! Or whatever that would be in Austro-Hungarian speak. Apparently German?
Freudenruf!
And finally my guns speak. Suppressing two of the three Russian batteries that were yet to fire (over open sights - indirect artillery fires before direct)...
...dispatching two companies in the woods.
Freudenruf!
And then the assault goes in.
Two companies. (The ones touching the town sector).
One of which gets dispatched from fire from within the town as it goes in. Wie ärgerlich! (Bother it!)
Still, it left me with one company, assaulting...four!
In Spearhead, since it's a bit of a big picture kind of system, town assaults are simplified, and pretty bloody. Each unit gets a modifier (in my case...none, in Robin's case +1 since his were veterans), each unit rolls, highest wins, eliminating their opponent. So...my one [unmodified] die, against Robin's [modified] four...
Freudenruf!
Freudenruf! Freudenruf!
I win the initiative at the start of the next turn, and rush in reinforcements to fight off the expected counter attack.
Meanwhile, in the south...
...I continue to whittle down Russian resistance.
But the focus of all the attention was really in the centre.
Here they come!
Two companies are eliminated by fire from the town as they come in, but still, two Russian veteran companies against three regular A-Hs...
Freudenruf! Freudenruf! Freudenruf!
And that was the end of that. Robin conceded. The Russians didn't have the remaining strength to regain the town, the objective of the battle, and as he was about to loose the southern woods, thus exposing his artillery...
Thanks for the game Robin. It was a really interesting and challenging scenario.
And it was great to push around the 20mm toys again.
The hero of the day was undoubtedly the successfully-assaulting-then-successfully-defending A-H company. The odds were against him, but he rose to the occasion!
Freudenruf!
