Another Batch Ready To Dip

Good evening,

And just before I get the Dip out for those Marians, I quickly rushed though these three Persian Takabara Auxilia elements...

...and a [Punic Wars] Italian Ally Auxilia element.

...which brings my totals up to over 100 infantry/rider figures...
  • 103 infantry or rider figures
  • 28 horses
  • 1 chariot, and
  • 1 undead dog/giant rat
Ha!

Another Six Almost Done

Good evening,

Just finished...sort of...four Parthian Light Horse elements...

...which I now have to wait 'till I've got a bit of dosh for some Parched Straw to complete their bases, and two more elements worth of Marians.

These are awaiting some Dip. I hope to have some Persian Auxilia ready to join them shortly.

Now the big question is - do I dip these LH? I've already undercoated, based, washed and layered them, and I'm afeared that if I dip them all of that will be lost. Hmmm...perhaps the next batch of LH.

So, apart from those awaiting Persian Auxilia (and Hoplites and [Punic Wars] Italian Allies), over these last five weeks I've managed to complete 25 elements comprising of...

  • 91 infantry or rider figures
  • 28 horses
  • 1 chariot, and
  • 1 undead dog/giant rat
That's quite a few!

Brucie's Epic X Wing Bash Game 1

Good afternoon,

Young Bruce and I got together for an X Wing game (or two) a couple of days ago at his place. Hence his kids looking on. The eldest of whom I'm [collaboratively] teaching again this year. The next eldest of whom I'm [collaboratively] teaching again next year.

I had yet to play with my CR-90, so I took around 150 points of Imperial and Rebel Huge and Small ships for an engage/encounter mission - head to head.

And so it begins. We both send the big boys head to head. The little fellas scoot around the outside.

I suddenly realise that I can't bring my single turbo laser to bear from the rear so try to heave the Corvette to starboard.

Bruce unleashes the Raider's own Turbo Laser...

... to somewhat devastating effect.

 Bother.

I swing the Corvette around to port...

...unleashing some quad laser goodness of my own.

Next round, Nightbeast runs into the rear of the Corvette...

...for no damage, unfortunately.

So I just continue to move lazily to the left. I know some manoeuvres!

All the while getting pounded by the Raider, and sniped by the TIE - who's now too close for me to shoot at it with my main and rear weapons, and is out of ark for my anti-fighter weapons.

Broadside!

But not before that pesky TIE finally cripples my aft section.

Bother.

However...

...I do get some revenge as I swing the CR-90's huge arse to the right!

Boom!

Unfortunately...

...the writing was on the wall. And the Raider was virtually untouched!

So, we swapped sides and set to it again.

First KOW Regiment Finished

Good morning,

Huzzah! Hot on the heals of my latest Marian Roman Blade elements, my first Kings Of War Regiment of Skeleton Warriors (with spears) is complete.

Replete with an Skellie...doggie? Giant rat? The rules don't specify, other than to say that they are an optional upgrade that adds Life Leach (1) to any unit of Skellies to which it is attached.

After the dip, I added a highlight to the bone with Ushabati Bone, and added an additional wash of Agrax Earthshade to the mail armour (but not the plate).

The regiment base didn't come out quite as well as I would have liked because of the gaps within the rows, since I was using one less miniature per row than suggested/prescribed, in an effort to reduce the overall cost of this army.

Still, they haven't come out too badly.

So on to the next spear unit...

...as well as another couple of elements of Late Republican Roman Legionaries.

Undercoat of black, initial base coat of Dark Fleshtone on the bits that will be flesh, brass or red. I find that those three colours don't really go well when applied straight atop black. And since I was applying light grey to some other minis...

Imperial Raider Mission One, Game Two

Good morning,

So, the Rebels having being completely done in the last game, Mark and I set up for another bash, this time swapping sides. Literally.

This time I kept the Rebels together...

...and raced them down the side of...space?

Mark turned to face.

And ran over some debris.

For three hull!

My aces line up, Skywalker taking out chunks of a Saber Pilot...

...with Garvin dealing the coup de grace.

Boom!

Still...

...Blam!

There goes Garvin. Note the 'Droid card - we were playing with the Integrated Astromech upgrade.

Next bound, and Mark expertly K Turns right in behind Dutch. With less than a millimetre to spare!

I zoom forward, with Dutch, who was veritably trailing smoke by this time, turning to face his fate.

Well...that wasn't unexpected.

Blat!

Luke zips behind the Raider, with the Tie in hot pursuit...

...while the Raider lumbers on. And they call the Shuttle a Space Whale!

Expecting that Mark would anticipate me flying Luke around towards my own edge, I throw him round to run back behind the Raider, seeing how hard it is to turn the Raider around.

Alas...

...the Raider is armed with some fearsome weaponry.

Bang!

Another great game...but man the Rebel's mission is hard to complete!

Thanks Mark,

Nick
