2017 X Wing Christchurch Regionals - Game 2

Against Lauren, another of the fairer gender!

Good afternoon,

Well, if one girl at an X Wing event was rare, two, and flying against them consequentially, is all but unheard of!

Lauren was attending the event with her husband, and was given the opportunity to either sit and watch, or join in. She chose the later!

She was flying Chewie, Kyle Katarn with TLT and a Green Squadron A Wing.

So, once again, my little boys were up against one of the big guns - Chewie...though no 3PO. First priority? Get rid of that TLT Hawk! TLTs rip my low hull ships to shreds. Hence...let's all deploy away from the Falcon, and hope for the best.

Lauren obliged by deploying her Hawk opposite mine.

And so we closed.

Lauren accidentally flies the A Wing onto a rock, the Falcon is temporarily out of the immediate picture (both Kyle and Chewie took pot shots at Palob...stripping a shield...and a hull...?), and four ships worth of shooting later...

...Kyle was no more!

A bit of a pile up in the merge...

...break...

...and Kaa'to is kablammo!

Poor old Palob's in a spot of bother too.

However he managed to slow play, making the A Wing overshoot. Chewie, well...

...Chewie had taken a bit of a beating...

...leaving a lonely A Wing..

...parked on a rock...

...to it's fate!

Thanks for the game Lauren, it was nice to win one for a change!

2017 X Wing Christchurch Regionals - Game 1

Good evening,

My first game for the 2017 Christchurch Regionals and I was up against that most rare of beasts - a female X Wing player!

Abby had rocked down from Auckland (with some magnificent tatoos - one of Princess Leia, one of Captain Phasma), with Mind Linked Fen Rau and a couple of rather pretty Jumpmasters.

I was flying...

...Palob with TLT, Kato with clusters and a couple of Heavy Sycks with Mangler Cannon.

I was a bit scared of, well, all of the list - that's a lot of hull for my little ships to chop through - so I set up as far away as I could, hoping to work around their flank.

Scary, but pretty.

Pretty-In-Purple flies onto a rock...

...taking no damage, however.

Drats.

Still I wind my way around, sending one Syck the long way round. Funny ships these. Can't fly fast, can't fly slow...

We all start turning in...

Well, at least I wasn't flying into all of them at once.

Alas, a lucky crit got through to Palob, and...

...poos! All of my upgrades and pilot skills went kerflunk!

Yay, my Hawk is now a one attack mini bus!

It was then pointed out to me that I just lost Palob's skill and the Elite upgrade...though I still lost the TLT thanks to Boba who was crewing Pretty-In-Purple.

And then...

...Fen Rau comes to the party...

...as does Pretty-In-Purple!

Stink!

Sooo...

...yeah...

Time was called. IIRC I did at least manage to get one of the Jumpmasters down to half points...?

This afternoon, well, all day really, I've been at the X Wings Miniatures Game 2017 Christchurch Regionals.

Saw some lovely painted minis...

An Epic 200 Point Encounter

Good afternoon,

About this time last week Bruce and I were playing a 200 point X Wing Epic game with the Big Boys (including Vader on the Decimator), Soontir, Dark Curse, Backstabber, Luke and Wedge.

It was a blast.

We set up...

...with me not noticing that large field of debris in front of my fighters...

...and got into it.

Wedge was denied actions, and, well, Luke...missed!

Worse than that...

...he got Ioned and just a little crushed by his dad!

The Boys close...over the ripples in Space Time...

...while the fighters continue to tangle.

Oh, good grief, Wedge is denied actions again...

...Luke gets taken apart by a Back Stabber...

...and Wedge gets eviscerated by the Raider.

Ah man!

Still...

...at least the Corvette took some form of revenge on Soontir.

The Raider plows on, missing Dark Curse by a mere millimeter!

Curses!

To add insult to injury...

...the front section of the CR-90 gets taken down. With most of my upgrades.

However, another slight miscalculation...

...and Back Stabber flies into the rear of Dodana's Pride.

Inflicting a crit.

Seeing as it seemed like a quick way to inflict injury...

...Bruce flies Dark Curse into the Corvette.

Seems a bit harsh, but then again...

This time, it only inflicts a hit.

Next turn, somehow...rear quad laser cannons I think...

...I inflict a crit on the Raider's rear, which in turn inflicts two hits on it's front.

Huzzah! Sorta.

Still...

...the writing was on the wall. Or ship bases, as it happens.

It was a great game, much closer than I thought it would end up once I lost my X's.
