Early Imperial Roman Carroballista

Good evening,

I have finished a couple more wheeled elements, this time some Early Imperial Roman Carroballista[s? - not sure of the plural when writing Latin...]

The horse and cart combination were made for me ages back by Mark Ottley, who also fashioned some really great little bolt shooters (out of GW Elven bow bits and card), however I kinda thought that they were a little heavy duty for the light mobile artillery that scooted around with the legions when in the field. So I just swapped out Mark's ones for some HaT [Punic] ones.

I also toyed around with a couple of darker skin tones, meaning to crew them with some North Africans...they've turned out a little more dark pink than I was expecting. Oh well.

  1. Good work.. I'm struggling to get the painting bug back at the moment. When does school start back for you? This week?

    Kind regards

  2. It does sound like you've got a lot on, so it's not surprising really.

We started back on Thursday, though five out of my 17 were away!

We're very lucky with the building - only the the end outside wall of the main block has been badly damaged.

Not so lucky with our school community. Two of our parents have died. One in the junior school, and one in the middle. Out of roll of 240 or so...

  4. Hi Paul,

Mark scratch built the wagons from card. The wheels are 15mm Frei Korps ACW artillery wheels.

    Cheers,
