The Sarge's Generosity - 3

Good morning,

Just a quick post before I get down to the drudgery of [school] planning for next week (the children I love. The time sink that is all the other stuff...not so much).

Anyway, after a bit of humming and harring, counting and re-counting, I decided to rebase the Sarge's figs for DBA-HX (Humberside Extension, that brings DBA out so's you can play with armies up to 1900 A.D.). If Stan remembers correctly, 60mm by 20mm bases can also work for Shako. I can also put them on a sabot base (two elements per base) for Volley and Bayonet, so...cool!

DBA-HX suggests four figures for Musket elements, but Sarge's three figures to a 30mm by 20mm base looked too cool, so I decided to base them at five figures. For me, this gives more of an impression of shoulder to shoulder mass musketry.

Obviously I haven't finished the bases yet, and in fact have only really started pulling Sarge's bases apart to rebase them, but I'm pleased with the results so far.

Thanks again Sarge,

Nick

  2. Actually, after reading the rules, Shako has
    1 1/8" by 1/2"
    or 1 1/8" by 1"
    or 3/4" by 1".
But allows any bases, as long as both sides use the same.

    Cheers,

    Stan.

  5. Stan,

    So...
    1 1/8 " = 28.575mm
    3/4" = 19.050mm
    1" = 25.400mm
...or we could just play each other using the DBx bases!

How many do you need for Shako? Sarge's painted figures, based 5 for heavy infantry, 2 for lights, will net me about 14 heavy elements and 6 lights. + about 6 3Cv and 2 Art. For the Brits/Allies.

  6. A Full British force can have about 24 Foot, 6 lights, 4 Cav & 3 guns.
    With some 'bonus selections'.
You have enough for a small corps in the 100 days.

It should be enough for a learning game or two :)

    Cheers,

    Stan.

  7. Excellent! Thanks Stan.

One more question, what's "the 100 days"?

[Thinking - normal service will be resumed shortly...]

Oh, hang on, wasn't that after Napoleon escaped Elba, went back to France and started up again? Ended at Waterloo?

Though, to be honest, it'll take me a while...just searching for the best education app for iPod touches to use in a classroom of 5 and 6 year olds!

  11. Nice unit you have there Nick!

The so called "100 days", are the days Napoleon came back from Elba to France untill his defeat at Waterloo. It were his last "hundred days" as Emperor.
