More...Wromans?

Here I have finished two more Celtic elements...

...one for...I think...Caesar's Gallic Allies for WMA, and one WMA Gaul command element.

To be honest, I can't remember which box I pulled this Gallic cav element out of!

And here is Spartacus hisself!

The first element painted of my HOTT Sparaticus army! The bulk being from old Atlantic Gladiators.

These ones are atop Esci Napoleonic cavalrymen legs, sitting on Newline (metal) Roman horses.

Ah, bother, I've just spotted a patch of unfinished flesh! Best I touch up that before he goes back in his box.

Yep, they were the third Gallic cav element to fill out my WMA unit of Gallic Allies for my Late Republican Roman WMA army. Now back to these Parthians...

EIRs Finally Finished!

Finally, after far too long, all of my Early Imperial Romans are painted!

These two were the last...








...well, for the time being! I do plan to swap out the bolt shooters on Mark Ottley's scratch built carroballistas for HaT's ones...

Note, the generals are both conversions - Esci Roman torsos atop (1) HaT Imperial Roman cav legs, and (2) Napoleonic cavalry legs (which are just a little too bow legged!).

Also note, the generals are sitting atop Newline Celt horses (their Roman cav I thought was way too skinny - I've still used them though, I just can't remember for what...oh, hang on, haven't I put them aside for my Sparaticus HOTT army?), with their flanking compatriots being, respectively left to right, Praetorian cav and Auxilia cav, but with Praetorian shields.

On further reflection, I should have used Praetorians for both and swapped over the standard from the Auxilia cav. Ah well.

While I was pottering away with these, I also pottered along with a couple more Gallic Warband elements. Airfix, Esci, Italeri and Revell all mixed up.


To celebrate, I plan to have a follow up WMA game from two years ago, featuring the aforementioned EIRs and my Raetian Goblins.


But this time everything's painted! Wha Hoo!

Gauls

As well as hacking away at my EIR Ax, I also pottered along with a Warband element, one of many that needs (or needed) painting. So, as I chug along with Romans, or whatever, I'll keep turning out Warband until they're, well, all done.


Of interest, apart from seeing figures from three different manufacturers (Revell, Airfix and Italeri respectively), it the effect a spray on gloss I'm using has on the paint. To the naked eye, you can't really notice anything, yet, magnified, well...hmmm...

I ran out of Cabots, which is the water based polyurethane varnish that I apply to my finished figures. Leaves a glossy shine, but the finish is pretty tough, and keeps the paint from flaking. I gave away a heap, thinking I'd never use it all, but, ummm, then I kind of did...

Had I the money, I would have purchased another can, but, given they're $30, and money for my hobby is scarce, I thought I'd try a cheaper alternative. It's a far flatter finish, but, well, it's not as good.

Ah well, never mind.
