HOTT Winter's Day, Game 2

Good evening,

On to game 2.

Young Stan brought out his Thomas the Tank Engine army.

  • Knight General (Gordon)
  • A Hero (Thomas)
  • Another Hero (Percy)
  • A Cleric (Annie and Clarabel)
  • Two Knights (Henry and Edward)
  • A Flyer (Harold)
  • A Lurker (11 Min. Delay Norbiton)
  • A God (Sir Topham Hat)

I broke out my Parthian army
  • Hero General
  • 3 Knights
  • 4 Riders
  • 2 Shooters, and...

  • ...a God. A wall of sand, AKA The Mummy...

Speaking of whom...

My God turned up early, and joined the general advance.

Having just reached the edge of the hill, Stan decided to contest it from me with Harold and Thomas.

Sandy McSandface took exception to this intrusion...

...and made itself known. Poor wee Thomas.

So Stan piles in on Sandy.

Alas for Sodor, Annie and Clarabel were not up to the job.

Never send a carrage to do an engine's job.

Now with a gap in the line to the front, McSandface piled in on Gordon...

...ably assisting the charging cataphracts.

However, it wasn't all one way traffic.

Beware oncoming trains...

Edward mustn't have got the memo.

And that was the end of that.

Had not Sandy McSandface turned up when it did, things could have been very different. Especially if Sir Topham Hat had showed.

Thanks for the game Stan,

Nick

Double DBA Parthian Army Complete

Good afternoon,

Here, within mere days shy of two years since starting, are my final Parthian fighting elements for my Parthian army. And so, my double DBA Parthian army is now complete.

With these done I now have...
  • 2 x Generals (4Kn)
  • 4 x Cataphracts (4Kn)
  • 12 x Horse Archers (2LH)
  • 2 x Vassal State Archers (Ps)
  • 1 x Daylami (4Ax)
  • 2 x Hyrkanian Mountaineers (3Ax)
  • 2 x City Militia (3Bw)

I can't make two all mounted Parthian armies (I'd need another three Light Horse elements and/or another five Cataphract elements to do that), but I do have enough numbers and variety to send two DBA armies up against my Later Republican and Early Imperial Romans.

I've still got five more Warmaster Ancients command (2Kn) elements to complete before I can say that all my Parthians are done, but...it's not every day one completes a DBA army, let alone two!

More Pathians Perfected

Good afternoon,

Just to prove that it's not all X Wing...I present to you...Parthian Cataphracts!

Just two more elements to go and I will have 2 DBA armies worth. Five Warmaster Ancients command elements more and I'll have 1000 WMA points worth. A small force to be sure, but a workable one.

Brexit - The Gift That Keeps On Giving...

Good afternoon,

Still getting over the flu, and it's back to work tomorrow, so...yeah, not the most fun I've had over any given school break. But there you go.

On the plus side, the shield transfers that I ordered from Little Big Men Studios arrived today.

Enough for my Macedonians, Carts and Hoplites.

Now I just have to wait patiently for my Newline order - more Macs, some Hoplites, a few Huns and LIRs.

Thanks to Brexit for the falling Pound!

I've also been hacking away at some Velites and Numidians...

...Parthians...

...some of whom have lost their bows, and even some mounted skellies.

I've also just undercoated the last three elements of Marian Roman legionaries (and the last two elements of Parthian light horse) so I'm hoping that I can get my Marians finished by the start of term. I hope.

Last of the Summer Miniatures...

...well, apart from these...

...which got started just before heading back to school.

Good morning,

I have finally managed to furnish the finishing flocking so as to flick these figures into their...boxes. Couldn't think of another alliteration there.

Parthians...

...Persians...

...and Peloponnesians.

Cool!

Another Six Almost Done

Good evening,

Just finished...sort of...four Parthian Light Horse elements...

...which I now have to wait 'till I've got a bit of dosh for some Parched Straw to complete their bases, and two more elements worth of Marians.

These are awaiting some Dip. I hope to have some Persian Auxilia ready to join them shortly.

Now the big question is - do I dip these LH? I've already undercoated, based, washed and layered them, and I'm afeared that if I dip them all of that will be lost. Hmmm...perhaps the next batch of LH.

So, apart from those awaiting Persian Auxilia (and Hoplites and [Punic Wars] Italian Allies), over these last five weeks I've managed to complete 25 elements comprising of...

  • 91 infantry or rider figures
  • 28 horses
  • 1 chariot, and
  • 1 undead dog/giant rat
That's quite a few!

More LH Completed

Good afternoon,

Here are my latest Light Horse elements completed. A Parthian...

...a Numidian (for my Later Carthaginian army)...

...and a Persian. A Later Achaemenid Persian, to be precise.

I do like LH elements: they're nice and quick to finish up. Just as well - I've got at least six more Parthian LH elements to get through, plus another couple for the Persians...not to mention the Huns...

So many miniatures, so little time!

20mm Ancients WIP

Good afternoon,

Just a bit of a Work in Progress really.

I've almost finished some Numidian, Later Achaemenid Persian and Parthian Light Horse elements...

...and am working through three, well...I thought they were spear, but according to the II/7 Later Achaemenid Persian DBA list, they're actually, ummm...Kardakes. Persian heavy infantry.

These dudes are the Apple Bearers, the Royal Guard, which might be represented by a single DBA element, but I'm doing three for my Warmaster Ancients army...

Anyway, they're Auxilia.

And since I'm working on pointy sticks...

...more Hoplite Greeks.

And, since...reasons...I thought to quickly block paint a second Marian army.

But mostly, I've been spending a bit of time on...
