HOTT Day in December, Game 3

Good evening,

Back to the Woolston club for our HOTT Day in December, this time...Game 3.

I still had my Numidians out from the last game, so...since they were ready and waiting...

They were going up against Mark's...Generic Fantasy Army.

  • 1 Blade General,
  • 4 Blades,
  • 1 Shooter,
  • 2 Wizards,
  • 1 Behemoth

I sent forward my bods...

...pushing forward the bulk of my riders on my right to try to take on Mark's Blades on the hill. I had a wee plan...

Unfortunately, so did Mark. There was a reason he sent up his Magicians. They zapped my Behemoth (elephant), which caused it to flee...off table!

Aww crap!

Still, thought I...time to spring my own wee surprise. I deployed my Lurkers, waiting off table as they were, in front and flank contact of...a Blade General who happened to be standing up hill...sigh...

They of course got bounced back.

Still, at least I had gained some sort of initiative. Sort of.

In the centre I tried to mob his Magicians with my own Blades and a Rider...

...whilst trying to upset Mark's apple cart on the hill.

And here's where I had a real chance. Not a good chance, you understand, I was a factor down (or, well, four for my Lurkers) on the hill, seeing as he was up hill, and a factor down for my rider, but still...

Sigh.

Lots of pushing and shoving went on on the hill (mostly my Riders being pushed and shoved, it must be said - there was just no room to get up around the flanks of his isolated [from each other] elements.

But at least the action on the hill and the threat in the centre was causing Mark some consternation.

He started to pull back his Magicians and slide across the Behemoth.

Opps, lost another one.

When the Behemoth finally got over to the flank...

...I pulled back my attack on the flank...

...to re-enforce my efforts in the centre.

Another zap from the two Magicians and...

...aww, come on!

Another I-ain't-got-diddly-squat walk over! Still, it was a fun game.

Well played Mark. Well played.

HOTT Day in December, Game 2

Well, sorta.

My second game was a bit of a bust really.

I was playing Tony and his 15mm WW2 Germans who I had met before, but this time with the FW-190 and Stuka swapped out for a HS-129 with my Numidians.

  • Rider General
  • 5 Riders
  • 1 Behemoth
  • 1 God
  • 2 Blades
  • 2 Lurkers

I deployed the troops...

...with their supporting acts waiting patiently in the background.

My first PIP roll happened to be a 6, so, since I had a mounted army facing a bunch of shooters, I deployed my wall of sand...

...and that was the end of that. Tony conceeded, refusing to fight a God - his argument being that they completely imbalance the game. My experience with Gods begs to differ!

So...I sat out this round.

Had a look at a Dystopian Wars game - cool minis.

HOTT Carnage 2012, Battle 1

Hi,

On Sunday the 2 December, a wee group of us (6 + Robin, who adjudicated) gathered together for the second of our two annual HOTT competitions - HOTT Carnage 2012.

I took my...

  1. Numidians
  2. VSF Brits
  3. Earl Imperial Romans
  4. Raetian Goblins
  5. Skellies

And so it began.

Game 1, my Numidians, vs...

Yep, Mark pulled together a HOTT army from My Little Pony toys! Classed them as Knights (they should have been Riders Mark!), with an Aerial Hero, Sneaker (the cake - something about the enemy general getting his just deserts...) and Cleric (the flower pot. Why? Can't remember!). The stronghold was, appropriately enough, a chest of gold, with an Artillery element off table, represented by a parcel thrower..!

Now, that's either pretty gay, or representative of some jolly big cajones to break out this army in front of a bunch of guys!

Either way, it was a pretty cool army, and displaying the flexibility of the army list system and the general good natured tenure of the competition beautifully!

Right, I laid out my Numidians only to have Mark declare that all of these prancing ponies - clearly Riders to all and sundry, with the exception of the one with wings and the unicorn - were Knights. Oh stink, did I say to myself. My poor Numidian ponies were going to be kinda up against it then...

Our lines closed...

...oh, aren't they cute!

Mark lined up his General killer (the Sneaker element, the Cake of Doom) across from Juba, my Hero General.

Only to have it run away after the first combat. Its all puff and icing!

Keep an eye on that Rainbow dash...

Pinky Pie was also a tough customer.

Now there's a sentence you don't see every day!

Thankfully Starsong, Mark's Aerial Hero, cost too much to move too often!

Meanwhile, Mark slowly set up his other flank.

(How can you take such a relaxed looking pony to be any kind of threat?!)

Finally, my God, a great wall of sand, arrived to deal with that pesky Starsong.

In the meantime Rainbow Dash continues her advance to my base edge...

Mark flies Starsong into my God...to little effect. I get a recoil result, but you can't recoil a God!

Right, finally, I've got Rainbow Dash just where I want...her...

Oh, come on!

And then my God disappears!

Oh, come on!

Mark sneaks his Sneaker in behind my General, ready to unleash the exploding buttocks of...cake?

Well, cutting off any recoil that may be forced upon him anyway.

Rainbow Dash turns back to menace more Numidians, so, now that it's finally isolated, I pounce.

Unfortunately, so does Mark.

Huzzah!

Again I say, Huzzah!

It wasn't to last. Mark unleashes...Starsong...

Oh crap, nowhere to recoil...

And just to add insult to injury...

...and that was the end of that. A good old fashioned drubbing at the hands of one of the more unlikely armies to grace the table!

Well played Mark.

Well played indeed.
