End of the Autumnal Spearmen...

...well, not really. End of the painting for Term 1 holidays anyway. So, just before I start ironing for the week...

...Triarii. Polybian Roman spearmen.

And...

...a camp, designed with the addition of a camp follower element in mind.

Depending on what the camp follower element might look like (if indeed I have one at all), this camp should pass for Hoplite Greeks, Macedonians and Marians too.

I'm hoping these will get completed over the week...well, we'll see how I go...

Just to prove that I do do something other than X Wing (says he having come back from another top-of-the-bottom-third showing at the 2016 Wizard's Retreat store champs...sigh...) - four more elements of Romans!

They were supposed to be Marians...

...but, well, I pulled these Hastati out of the box by mistake!

On the bright side, looks like I had already started on some Triarii a while back, so...

...they shouldn't take too long.

And while I'm at it...

...I'll see what I can do with this camp element.

Then...three more Principes/Marian blade elements to finish (plus a Gaelic cav, IIRC...) plus two Velites elements and that'll finish both my double Marian DBA army and my Polybian Roman. The double Parthian is close to just under half way finished, and the Later Carts? Ahh...one, two...about three elements are done...so, they'll take a wee while yet.

Last of the Summer Spearmen

Good evening,

Here I now present to you my last spear elements of the summer. Both HaT. One from their Italian Allies set...

...which I'll use as an Athenian Ally element (I really need to get some shield transfers!), and one from their Later Hoplite Greek set...

...who, like the Persian foes, are awaiting some parched straw to add to their flock mix.

Note how I cut away the back of their shields so that I could bend them to their front. It did make a bit of a mess of their backs, but at least her they're not holding their shields out beside them in a "come at me bro!" pose!

Final Elements For The Summer

Good evening,

And here are my final efforts for my summer holidays. My completed Marian Roman Legionaries/Polybian Roman Principes, and their Italian Allies, all dipped up, dulled down and based.

And since the dip was about to be brought back out, I quickly finished/base coated these Later Achaemenid Persian Auxilia...

(I'm still waiting for the cash for the parched straw for their bases)

...and then brought out some of my pre-painted Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Miniatures, the ones that looked particularly blah, and dipped (and sprayed) them as well.

They've made quite a difference on some, not so much on the others. But that Duros has turned out beautifully!

So, since it seemed to work on them...

...I brought out some more! Worked a treat on those Rebel Honour Guards, the Quarren and those Jawa. Especially the one in the lighter robe.

So that brings up my grand total of painted figures to...nine more than last count?

28 elements, comprising of...

• 112 infantry or rider figures
• 28 horses
• 1 chariot, and
• 1 undead dog/giant rat

...as near as I can figure it, over six weeks. Plus a few games here and there, including Star Wars Edge of the Empire RPG this afternoon, in which some of these very figures made an appearance.

Another Batch Ready To Dip

And just before I get the Dip out for those Marians, I quickly rushed though these three Persian Takabara Auxilia elements...

...and a [Punic Wars] Italian Ally Auxilia element.

...which brings my totals up to over 100 infantry/rider figures...

Another Six Almost Done

Good evening,

Just finished...sort of...four Parthian Light Horse elements...

...which I now have to wait 'till I've got a bit of dosh for some Parched Straw to complete their bases, and two more elements worth of Marians.

These are awaiting some Dip. I hope to have some Persian Auxilia ready to join them shortly.

Now the big question is - do I dip these LH? I've already undercoated, based, washed and layered them, and I'm afeared that if I dip them all of that will be lost. Hmmm...perhaps the next batch of LH.

So, apart from those awaiting Persian Auxilia (and Hoplites and [Punic Wars] Italian Allies), over these last five weeks I've managed to complete 25 elements comprising of...

• 91 infantry or rider figures
• 28 horses
• 1 chariot, and
• 1 undead dog/giant rat

That's quite a few!

First KOW Regiment Finished

Good morning,

Huzzah! Hot on the heals of my latest Marian Roman Blade elements, my first Kings Of War Regiment of Skeleton Warriors (with spears) is complete.

Replete with an Skellie...doggie? Giant rat? The rules don't specify, other than to say that they are an optional upgrade that adds Life Leach (1) to any unit of Skellies to which it is attached.

After the dip, I added a highlight to the bone with Ushabati Bone, and added an additional wash of Agrax Earthshade to the mail armour (but not the plate).

The regiment base didn't come out quite as well as I would have liked because of the gaps within the rows, since I was using one less miniature per row than suggested/prescribed, in an effort to reduce the overall cost of this army.

Still, they haven't come out too badly.

So on to the next spear unit...

...as well as another couple of elements of Late Republican Roman Legionaries.

Undercoat of black, initial base coat of Dark Fleshtone on the bits that will be flesh, brass or red. I find that those three colours don't really go well when applied straight atop black. And since I was applying light grey to some other minis...
