28mm Fantasy WIP

Good afternoon,

Again,

The reason behind block painting those Marians is because...I've turned to the dark side!

Well, sort of. 28mm Mantic KOW Skellies, block painted so as to be dipped...

...once Mighty Ape get some more in!

Hence the Marians. I want to do the same to them.

It all started a couple of years ago, when I picked up some cheap Mantic Skellies at a DBA/X Wing event. And, since then, when discounts and spare cash allowed, I've been slowly collecting enough plastic for small Kings Of War army.

All based one less abreast per line than recommended, to spread the love, so to speak.

Or rather, to spread the cost.

I also bought into the Kings of War 2nd Edition Kickstarter as part of 2014's Christmas gift from my wife. Which finally arrived in December 2015, 12 months later...

...repete with a dude riding a dinosaur...and a bag piper!

This dipping stuff better work!

20mm Ancients WIP

Good afternoon,

Just a bit of a Work in Progress really.

I've almost finished some Numidian, Later Achaemenid Persian and Parthian Light Horse elements...

...and am working through three, well...I thought they were spear, but according to the II/7 Later Achaemenid Persian DBA list, they're actually, ummm...Kardakes. Persian heavy infantry.

These dudes are the Apple Bearers, the Royal Guard, which might be represented by a single DBA element, but I'm doing three for my Warmaster Ancients army...

Anyway, they're Auxilia.

And since I'm working on pointy sticks...

...more Hoplite Greeks.

And, since...reasons...I thought to quickly block paint a second Marian army.

But mostly, I've been spending a bit of time on...

GW Spearhead

Good evening,

Just while I'm waiting for Weird Al to start here in the Isaac Theatre (Christchurch), I thought I might share a few pictures from Monday night's game of Great War Spearhead. 20mm Russians vs. Austro-Hungarians.

See Robin's report for an actual battle report...though he simply brushed past my efforts in the centre - I spent about 3 Regiments to deal to 3 Companies in the woods!

X Wings @ Tim's - Game 2

Many X Wings.

Good morning,

Following the previous game, we set up for another.

Same ships for me, Tim wanted to try out an X Wing list with...
Which meant that Hobbie could do a red, get a target lock (if in range), shred his stress and do an action (focus). Likewise Jek, though he had to roll for it (getting a hit for his troubles, as it happened!)

Oh, and Tim was also flying a Chardaan Refit Prototype A.

I haven't seen so many X Wings on the board since Wave 2!

Rather than risking a joust, I set up in the middle, hoping that that 'roid would give me cover as Tim came in.

Alas, although Wedge and the A could avoid most of Tim's arcs...

...my B landed on the silly rock!

Took a damage, plus five more from incoming (and non-returnable) fire.

Drats!

Next turn, Tim tries to use his A to block my B.

But I just power on through with a [red] straight 4.

Keyan Farlander works best when he's stressed, afterall.

And since I had Biggs cornered, Wedge removed chunks...

...and Keyan did the rest.

Boo ya!

Alas...

...Keyan wasn't long for this world!

Drats! If only he hadn't flown onto that 'roid...

Next turn...

(notice the infinitesimal gap?)

...and Wedge one shots a full health A!

Boom!

And so it was, two on two.

Alas and alak, I completely miscalculated Hobbie's K Turn behind Wedge, and, in spite of trying to boost behind a rock...

Kablammo!

Drats!

Still, what's good for the goose...

...is good for the A Wing.

Huzzah!

What followed was a good old swirling dogfight for position.

I was trying desperately to come into Hobbie from the flank...

...but Tim was having none of that nonsense.

So I tried a 5K to cut him off from the other side.

I thought it would have got me further out.

Bother it!

Still, it was a great game, far more two sided than my usual games with Tim!

Thanks Tim, that was cool!
