Foot Finally Finished

Good afternoon,

Yay for the holidays!

I have finally brought out my paints once more. I'd forgotten how relaxing it all is - sitting here, chipping away at the pile in no particular hurry, listening/watching You Tube. Very nice.

Anyhow, over the course of, well, yesterday, I finally finished the final foot elements for my Early Achaemenid Persian DBA army.

And their first mounted element.

Which makes...

  • 4 x 8Bw - 48 figures (mine are actually 8Bw + 4Sp!)
  • 3 x 7Hd - 21 figures
  • 1 x 3Ax - 3 figures
  • 2 x 2Ps - 4 figures
  • 1 x 4Sp - 4 figures (Greek allies)
= 80 infantry figures. For one army!

Now to get these...

  • 1 Ch Gen
  • 2 Cv
...done...before I go back to school!

Whiz Bang at Wizards, Game 4 vs. Jeremy.

Good evening,

Well...err...yeah...one win, two losses, each with a blowed up Falcon...so, umm, down to the bottom table I go.

Stink!

And while I was there, I caught up with Jeremy, who was running Soontir, Redline in a brand new Tie Punisher and a couple of Academies.

Thankfully, Jeremy splits his forces, so...

...Wedge was able to one shot an Academy.

Sweet!

Then...Wedge zips around the debris (I'm loving PTL with an Engine Upgrade on Wedge), while Lando flies into the remaining Acadamy.

Thankfully, Jeremy's heavy hitters are still out of range and/or arc.

But not for long.

Jeremy piles on the hurt Lando, while I pile on the hurt on Redline.

Let's see who goes down first.

Aww, Stink!

Still...

...at least I took out a still heavily ordinanced Punisher.

Right, back to the recurring theme of the day - Wedge against the world.

So, first he chases down the Academy...

Boom!

Now Wedge just had to deal with Soontir...who was behind him...

Yikes!

Time to turn him around.

While Soontir took great big chunks out of Wedge...in fact, last bound and we were both down to one hull...

Boom! Against a fully turtled up Soontir!

Huzzah!

It was a great game, coming right down to the last throw of the die.

Thanks Jeremy.

As that was the last game of the day, all the points were added up and...I came 13th of 18. Top of the bottom third. Again!

It was a fun old day, and a good time was had by all. Thanks boys,

Nick

Whiz Bang at Wizards, Game 3 vs. Carl.

Good afternoon.

And a fine afternoon it is too. To be inside, that is.

But I digress.

Now I was going back down the tables. As does so often happen. And so it was that I met Carl and his Cath-and-Ties list.

Seeing as throwing myself into the fray so eagerly didn't really work out for me last time...

...I tried to bring Carl in through the obstacles.

All while Lando fails to evade.

Carl cleverly corals Cath close so as to cause consternation and collisions.

All while Lando fails to evade.

Again with a collision!

Blimmin swarms...

And then Lando...

...goes boom!

All while Lando fails to evade. Not. A. Single. One.

So, it was Wedge against the world.

But not for very long.

Drats! That was a surprisingly short game!

Still, at least I got Cath down to half points, so...yeah...

Well played Carl, well played.

Whiz Bang at Wizards, Game 2 vs. Damon.

Good evening,

Well after that win, I went up to table 5. Sweet! Up with the big boys! And Damon ain't no slouch!

He was running a Palp mobile with Soontir and Vader. Urghh. Two uber-aces and a Master of the Die.

Damon won the initiative, and had me move first. So I did. Wedge right into Vader. Even Damon uttered words to the effect of "What were you thinking?!"

Well, that ain't good!

I split my shooting, and terrain splits my boys...

...forcing me to halve my fire...

...for two turns...and then, just when Lando had a Range 1 shot with his turret...

...I fly him onto an asteroid. Not once...

...but twice! Arghh! (You can't shoot if you've flown onto an asteroid.)

Arghh indeed!

Look at that! I could have had Soontir dead to rights!

Stink, stink, stink!

And the rest...

...as they say...

...was inevitable!

Fly like a Rook, die like a Rook! A couple of major brain farts on my part, and Damon took full advantage of my silly mistakes.

Well played Damon, well played indeed!

Whiz Bang at Wizards, Game 1 Vs Jared

Good evening,

And a good evening it is down here. A balmy 25 deg C at half eight...it is indeed quite pleasant.

Anyhoo, as per my last post, I played in a wee four round tourney at The Wizard's Retreat last Saturday. I looked at the toys I hadn't played with for a while, and decided on a Battle of Endor list. Lando with Neim Nunb, and an upgraded Wedge.

My first game was against Jared. He of Raider fame.

He was flying a 6 Tie swarm, with Howlrunner, Backstabber (dratted Backstabber) and an Omega Ace in a new fangled Tie/FO.

Yikes, his six versus my two! Still, gotta love the shirt!

I set up on the edge of the map, forcing him to fly through the debris to come get me.

It kinda worked. Look at all those stressed Imperials. One had even taken a crit.

(Yes, yes, Wedge is stressed too, but that was by design - push the limit with a heap of green moves to shake it off thanks to his R2 unit.)

Lando unleashes his Concussion Missiles for even more bang. Sweet.

Next bound and first guns go to Wedge...

Three crits and a hit! Boo ya!

Not to be outdone...

...Lando takes out Howlrunner.

Huzzah!

We split...

...turn around...

...and face each other one more time.

Boo ya!

Wedge does indeed shoot first.

Alas the Omega Ace spends his Target Lock and Focus to land three crits into Lando.

Bother.

Next bound and Backstabber takes huge chunks out of the Falcon (+ one die for being out of the Falcon's firing arc, + another for Range 1)

Stink.

First priority for Wedge?

Take out that Omega!

I try to bug out with Lando...

...but even so...

Boom!

Drats!

So now it was down to two to one.

Still, one 4K later, and...

Boom!

Boom! Boom!

And so it came to pass, my first win. But at a cost. 59 points, to be exact.

Wedge did much better than I expected. That combo of Engine upgrade, PTL and the R2 unit really gives him some options. Bit pricey but...

Thanks for the game Jared, I must admit that it was pretty cool seeing so many Ties on the board. Lando didn't think so, but still...

:-)
