Crossfire Practice

Good afternoon,

We interrupt this X Wing feast (and a feast it is) to bring you a taster of an upcoming battle report of a Crossfire game Mark and I had last night as practice for participating (I hope) in Operation Crossfire.

Mark and I threw down some terrain and away we went. Actual report to follow, when I can upload the pics from work without having Matthew moan is bum off about my hogging of the internet pipe here at home - uploads seem to be much fatter than downloads.

My copy of the rules are actually a PDF of the proposed Great War version (identical except for the [missing] vehicle stats) and scans of Stan's vehicle tables, all of which needed my computer to access, and, as the battery was flat on my Tablet PC (brilliant wee thing that it is) after a long day at school, and I couldn't be bothered fishing it out and plugging it in, the game was all run from memory up until I remembered and retrieved my printed quick reference sheet.
"Smoke is successfully landed on 4+ on 1D6, 3"/81mm have three smoke stands, that 2" has two; if you can see it, you can shoot at it, 3d6 for rifles, 4d6 for HMGs, minus a die for cover, you need 5s and 6s to pin, two hits to supress, three to destroy outright or another suppression on a suppression; your initiatives last until your opponent manages to stop you with a suppression or you fail to supress/rally something yourself; close combat one die for each element touching, +1 for a PC, +2 for a CC, highest wins."
Great game system.

Nick

  1. I like the figure basing. Being a plastic figure gamer myself and seing them based for Crossfire gets me exited. One question where did you get those mini dice?

    1. Hi Greg. Thanks, they are based on 40mm square bases, a little bigger than standard, but I think it works quite well to represent squads, especially alongside their armour.

The little dice are from the packets of ships for Pirates of the Spanish Main that my son and I started collecting quite a while back.

  2. Love it! Love Crossfire - the first set of rules I bought into back in '96 and never really found anything to sate my hunger since...

  3. Isn't it great that Crossfire can be played practically from memory? I have decided after rebasing all of my 15mm WW2 troops, that Crossfire will be a fitting use for all of the 20mm plastic I have laying around!

Thanks for posting this is inspiring to start up my Crossfire project again!

  4. Good to see a Crossfire game. It is one of my favourite set of WW2 rules. My recent 15mm WW2 figures were constructed so I can also use them for Crossfire as well.

    Your figures look great.

    1. Cheers Mark (?). Had a quick look at your site, love the Wings of War stuff. Have you tried X Wing. Same flight path system, no altitude complications.
