The Yavin Four

Good evening,

Right, after the last two games, and my realisation that the B Wing ion weapon was not in a turret, I went away and rethought my list. This is what I came up with.

Nice and simple. Two Pilot Skill 6 pilots and two PS4s. I went for Red Squadron pilots 'stead of Rookies, cause I wanted them to have a chance to be able to shoot before...well, at least someone. Anyone? Please?

So, instead of writing school reports (Monday was Labour Day after all, so I was naturally at work), I cut and ran early hoping to get in a pick up game at Comics. Thankfully, George was willing and able to comply. With Wedge, Biggs, and...some new chick from the Rebel Aces box who could shoot ordinance out of her...firing arc. And ordinance this list had aplenty - every man and his dog was carrying a load out of proton torpedoes. Or two.

Asteroids were thrown down, with a nice wide jousting alley down the flank, so we lined up and away we went.

Note Wedge up front, but Biggs staying at range 1 behind, forcing all and sundry to shoot at him instead.

Early on, Red 1 was target locked...by all and sundry. And in spite of carrying a focus...

...all those proton torps took their toll. In fact, I'm not even sure if he got to shoot at all.

Still, I kept closing 'cause...well, from the last games I realised that I have to keep my guns pointing at something!

Unexpectedly, Wedge zipped right over and in behind my...what did they call it...my phalanx.

Drats.

Thankfully...

...he missed every shot! Whew!

Unfortunately...

...Biggs did not!

Well, there was nothing left for it but to carry on. And keep my guns pointed at my foe.

Again, the target had to be Biggs, but with Biggs and Garven paying him heed...

...he finally went down. Boy, did he soak up a lot of hits. (His defence dice were really good.)

Mind you, so did Dutch in my Y Wing. Soak up hits, not roll evades. Y Wings can only roll one defence die, so...yeah. He was lucky to survive Wedge and the B...

...but survive he did.

Much to Wedge's dismay.

Right, now the odds were stacked in my favour. Just. That B Wing was all but at full health.

Now all I needed to do was a couple of K Turns...

....oh drats! I misjudged that.

"Hello Dutch." "Why, hello Garven."

We separate, and I manage to ion the B.

Sweet! All I have to do is ion him again, and then I can clear this Y Wing's stress.

Aww man!

So it all came down to this. The B Wing manoeuvred to go head to head with Dutch (he was expecting me to take a slow green manoeuvre to clear my stress), though he couldn't do anything about Garven flying up behind him and unleashing hot plasma. And Garven passing on his focus to Dutch.

Which took the B was down to one hull, as was Dutch.

But Dutch got to shoot first!

Huzzah!

That was a great game George. It was vey close, the dice were hot and failed us both at critical times - all in all, everything that makes X Wing such a great game!

Rethink That List. Game 2.

Good evening,

Right, so so far, my new list isn't working so well. Let's try it on...something impossible!

Let me introduce to you Tim's uber list - Chewbacca flying the Falcon with R2 and C3PO flying alongside Lando in a YT-1300 with...some chick that allowed him to change a focus into an evade. Or something. An awesome combo anyway. Somehow any critical hits that Lando took could also be taken by Chewbacca instead, so long as the two stuck together.

So stick together they did. Right from the outset.

Actually, there isn't much to say in this battle report. The YTs flew slowly around the edge of the map, avoiding the asteroids, keeping together...

...and shooting in two 360 degree arcs.

Opps, there goes Wedge. Again. I really need to keep him pointed at the enemy, stress or no stress. And off asteroids.

And there went the A Wing...which lasted longer than I thought it would. There's something to be said for three evade dice.

Boom! There goes Garven. Who, if memory serves, failed to pass any focus counters to anyone. Gotta keep him close to his mates.

Which just left the B Wing, who had no shields and was already shredding hull...

...against a one shield (and growing, thanks to R2) Chewie.

I conceded.

Still, I had managed to take out one pseudo Falcon, so...it wasn't all bad. In fact, it was quite good in so far as I learnt, or was reminded, of a thing or two.

Thanks Tim, see you at the Regionals,

Nick

A Message for Tim

Hi Tim,

If you're looking for the game that you and I played on Sunday, well...I have yet to upload the pickies, and the pipe's a bit busy at the moment, downloading the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

So...please check back tomorrow!

Oh, and George, the same goes for our game from this afternoon.

Thanks again George,

Nick

Rethink That List. Game 1.

Good evening,

Another trot down to Comics on a lazy Sunday afternoon, this time to try out a revised list for the Regionals.

Since, well, last week's list wasn't really working.

Anyroadup, thankfully Andrew was looking for a game when I arrived, so...away we went.

He was running an Academy Pilot, Boba Fett in Slave 1 with...oh what was it? A Gunner and...something that allowed the denial of an defence die if the shooter was outside the target's fire arc.

Oh, and Vader with Cluster Missiles.

So, rather than going head to head with his heavy hitters, I thought to try to get over to the other flank.

Which did kinda mean my own heavy hitters were looking the wrong way.  Those guns need to be pointed in the right direction to be effective...

And so the furball began.

Until...

...I'd forgotten that the A Wing had previously done a K Turn, and, as I had dialled another red manoeuvre...

...Andrew dialled a non red manoeuvre for me!

Bother!

Still, the turn was not all bad. Not only did Vader keep running into my B Wing, which meant he couldn't shoot it, neither could he do any actions, but...

...my B Wing, which I had equipped with an Ion Turret, managed to polish off the last hull point of the Academy Pilot. Or so we thought at the time. Upon further reflection, it didn't have a turret, but just ion cannons. Opps!

Never mind.

We kept circling around each other.

And Vader kept colliding.

Unfortunately...

...Boba was able to blow out his arse and blew Wedge to pieces. Even though I had saved that focus token to aide his defence. Note to self - when you've got one hit and two focus, use that focus!

The next turn Vader changed tactics...

...avoided the B Wing...

...and boom!

Rats!

Double rats!

Triple rats!

And that was the end of that.

Hmm...I may need to rethink that list. Wedge goes way too quick to cost that much, I need to shoot more often with my X Wings...and I need a turret!

Thanks for the game Andrew,

Nick
